ESTATE MANAGER
The position will be based at Ziwani, in Taveta. The holder will be expected to
* Be in-charge of the estate and be responsible for its day-to-day running, human resources and other estate operations for both crop and livestock.
* Prepare business plans for the various estate enterprises and will be responsible for the financial management of the estate.
* Innovatively and efficiently run the estate for optimal productivity and profitability.
* Updating and safekeeping of all estate records and asset
The ideal candidate should:
* Have a background in Agriculture, with training at degree or Diploma level.
* Have experience in the extensive use of irrigation systems.
* Have the ability to manage a estate with extensive activities.
* Demonstrate experience in handling large scale estate equipment and machinery.
* Possess a demonstrable ability to make budgets.
* Be computer literate.
* Possess strong supervisory & management skills.
* Have at least 8 years experience in managing a estate with a workforce of over 700 employees.

Homa Hills Community Development Organization (HHCDO) was founded in 1980 by the Redd Barna (Norwegian for Save the Children ) as an Agricultural and Technical Training Centre. It is situated at the Western Shores of Lake Victoria in Kenya.
In 1999 the Redd Barna phased out, though the organization had previously been registered as an NGO in 1994. The organization therefore had to seek for various donors to support its activities within the center and the local community.
At the centre, there are agricultural demonstration plots as well as commercial units for poultry, dairy, horticulture and fish farming. We also run a low cost health centre as well as a Youth Polytechnic.
HHCDO supports direct poverty reduction programs in partnership with various donors namely Action Aid International, Kenya (AAIK), Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Stitching foundation for Homa Hills. The main areas include
* Education (construction of classrooms, levies/bursary, vocational fees, teacher and committee trainings)
* Health, HIV & AIDS (health center, VCT services, ART, medication support for HIV/AIDS patients, vaccinations, mobile toilets)
* Food Security ( Food rations and Seed support, Demonstrations, Bulking and Training, Dairy goats)
* Environment (Advocacy, Awareness and Afforestration)
* Women's Rights and Civil Society Empowerment (Group strengthening/governance, support to women's rights groups in politics, households and community, legal support to women and girls)
* Savings and Credit-Microfinance (Savings to spur growth of small business owned by women for household economic security)

In order to achieve this, we seek to recruit a high caliber result oriented Procurement professional to strengthen the Corporation’s human resource.
Position: Manager – Procurement
Reporting to: General Manager-Human Resources & Administration
Some of the key functions will be:
* Prepare purchase requisitions, and issues local purchase orders in accordance with Corporation policy and negotiated terms and conditions.
* Prepares, reviews and evaluates bid/tender documents and proposals for all items to be procured by the Corporation in liaison with relevant Units:
* Manage vendor/ supplier relationships and assist in building effective partnerships.
* Ensure efficient procurement, receipting, storage, custody and issuance of stores and that deliveries meet the required standards
* Verify all suppliers invoices, processes payments and ensure prompt settlement
* Maintain and keep records of Tender Committee meetings and provide secretarial services to the committee;
* Offer advice to Management on all matters relating to procurement and disposal of assets and stores.
Requirements
* Bachelors degree in Supplies/Procurement or equivalent.
* Post graduate Diploma in Procurement Management or related area
* Advanced Management course
* Six (6) years experience in a relevant and comparable institution

The Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) is coordinating the Kenyan component of a project being implemented in Kenya, Benin and South Africa titled ‘Joint Learning in Innovation Systems of African Agriculture (JOLISAA).
The two and a half years project (30 months) seeks to identify, assess and draw lessons/insights from past and on going innovation systems and local knowledge experiences in the three countries.
The position of an assistant coordinator for a period of 18 months is being sought who will assist the Kenya national coordinator to:
* Facilitate and support data collection, processing and documentation of innovation system cases in Kenya.
* Assist in distillation of lessons from the various innovation system cases
* Participate in innovation system perspective capacity building activities
* Liaise with various Kenyan innovation platform members, project staff, private sector, policy makers and other stakeholders on project matters
* Any other duties relating to project activities
Qualifications:
* A mature and dynamic person below 40 years of age
* Masters degree level education from a recognized University in any of the following fields rural/community development, economics, agronomy or sociology
* At least 4 years of field experience in community/rural development and/or local innovation systems/local knowledge work within Kenya
* Proven skills in analysis, report writing and scientific documentation of field experiences.
* Experience with web-based information sharing and networking;
* Excellent communication and networking skills and a team player
* An ‘out-of-the-box’ thinker with ambition and interest in agricultural innovation systems
* Passion for engaging in field activities and interacting with rural families and rural based organisations.
