Senior Data Center Engineer Ref: IT_ SDCE_ NOV 2010
Reporting to Senior Manager; IT Systems Infrastructure, the holder of the position will be responsible for managing, monitoring, and supporting Safaricom data centers and disaster recovery sites.

You will coordinate and manage efforts towards the construction of new data center(s) or recovery sites through management of vendors, coordination of relevant construction process, procurement and equipping of the data centers.

Key Responsibilities
Data Center Operations Management:
* Managing, configuration and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems in use in the data center environment including UPS systems, AC unit’s chiller, feeders, inverters and generators.
* Analysis of air flow and temperatures within the data centers including implementation of tactical service improvements and upgrades to improve air circulation and optimize temperatures in the data centers and disaster recovery site.
* Physical access control management; manage access list, authorize additions and deletions, periodically review access list for potential deletions and periodically audit access logs for exceptions.
* Develop and manage systems documentation, drawings and procedures.

Capacity Planning:
* Monitor consumption of space, power and cooling capacity. Provide visibility of capacity and consumption of resources to management.
* Manage hardware in date center to maximize utilization.
* Change management coordination; manage new hardware capacity allocation within the data centers as well as decommissioned hardware.
* Allocate space for new hardware, coordinate electrical connectivity, and physical movement of equipment in data center.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Solution Design

Enterprise Architecture

Minimum requirements
* Degree in Science/computer science/Engineering/Business related;
* A minimum of 5 years of software development experience in a busy IT development environment, 2 years of which must include experience in systems analysis and design;
* Experience in multiple programming languages and Web services;
* Advanced skills in logical and physical data modeling, relational databases;
* Experience with both UNIX and Windows platforms;
* Knowledge of networking-TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, security-encryption (SSL), certificates, firewalls, VPN, and IPSec;

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Billing, the holder of the position will be responsible for the Billing Services function within IT Business Services Department.

The main duties in this role will include; Change management, System maintenance, System faulting, Process improvement, Bill production and presentation.

Key Responsibilities
* Systems support by ensure rating and billing service availability;
* Change Management – take part in billing software upgrade and configuration changes, including update of the configuration database;
* Implementation of new billing services and system expansion from evaluation of new services to final acceptance;
* Resolve faults on all equipments and services under billing responsibility; Escalate faults to supplier if needed and follow up until resolution;
* System maintenance – perform maintenance routines to ensure all billing systems are up and running at all times;
* Ensure all billing systems are secure;
* Internal and external process improvement;
* Knowledge transfer to first line maintenance.

Minimum requirements
* Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Telecommunication Engineering.
* At least 3-4 years working experience in IT/Billing function.
