Field Assistant/Machine Operator- WEMA Project (Water Efficient Maize for Africa)
The incumbent will be responsible for:
    * Utilizing/ operating research equipment such as tractors, planters, combine harvesters, sprayers etc.
    * Trial site preparation, seeding, planting, crop management, irrigation and harvesting/shelling and weighting in all the trial site plots.
    * Assisting in all field operations and implementation of Monsanto’s safety programs to ensure a safe work environment.
    * Assist in other projects and perform any other duties as and when required.

Applicants should have:

    * Diploma in Agricultural Engineering with at least 3 years experience with farm equipment/machinery operations. Applicants with a B.Sc. degree in Agricultural Engineering may have and added advantage.
    * Knowledge of corn/crop production farming practices, farm equipment operations and repair.
    * A team player with a passion for field work in addition to excellent organizational, interpersonal and record keeping skills.
    * Valid driver’s license with at least 3 years driving experience and a willingness to travel extensively and away from home during planting, growing and harvesting periods.
    * Relationships and networks, courage and condor, agility, initiative/foresight and results orientation.

Field Technicians (2) – WEMA Project (Water Efficient Maize for Africa)
The incumbent will be responsible for:

    * Helping in trial site location selection and maintenance of good relationships with trial cooperators.
    * Manage and assist in all the different planting operations such as seeding, crop management, pollination, data collection, harvesting etc
    * Assist in seed lab operations including seed shelling, packaging, treating and packet arrangement.
    * Assist in timely and accurate data collection from trial research plots
    * Communicate/coordinate with farmers on off station trials and assist in accurate data collection.
    * Supervise and train temporary/casual workers involved in the trial sites.
    * Assist in the implementation of site safety programs towards a safe work environment.
    * Assist in any other projects and duties as and when required.

Applicants should have:-

    * A Diploma in Agriculture/Agronomy or related fields with 5 years relevant field farming experience.
    * Applicants with a B.Sc. Agriculture/Agronomy may have an added advantage.
    * A good team player with knowledge of crop production and farming practices.
    * Good communication and interpersonal skills as well as organization and record keeping skills.
    * Ability to live close to the trial sites location during the trial growing seasons.
    * A valid driver’s license with at least 3 years driving experience.
    * Willingness to travel to the maize growing areas of Kenya and if need be Uganda and Tanzania during the growing seasons.
    * Relationships and networks, courage and condor, agility, initiative/foresight and results orientation.
