Barclays Bank of Kenya is laying off 200 managers to cut costs as lenders increasingly look at trimming their executive suites this year to control their rising wage bill.
Managing director Adan Mohamed sent a memo to all staff on Tuesday saying the workforce would be cut by six per cent in line with an ongoing restructuring plan.
Other top banks including Equity and Co-operative have announce a freeze in hiring plans and job cuts while KCB has hired global consultancy firm McKinsey & Company to help create a new organisation structure especially on its executive suites.
CFC Stanbic Bank is also believed to be planning a cut on its workforce from March, according to sources.
The employment redundancies are informed by the efficiency gains that Kenyan banks have made after installing new IT platforms in the past two years and merging some departments.

The NetTel@Africa Scholarship Programme provides promising practitioners from the private and public sector with tuition support to participate in the Postgraduate Diploma Programme in ICT Policy and Regulation.
Up to ten (10) scholarships are available for this Programme offered in Makerere University . The amount of the scholarship will be $1,300 for male students and $1,500 for female students. Main Purpose of the position
* Quality analyst provides professional support to production and quality departments by performing and timely communicating the necessary quality tests and analyses required for product safety and quality.
* Quality analyst is part of quality teams in factory laboratory.
* Quality analyst is competent in performing product-specific quality, packaging, chemistry, microbiology, sensory or net weight content tests and analysis.

Communications Officer International Labour Organization (ILO)
The Communications Officer, CO, will work under the overall guidance of the Programme’s Chief Technical Adviser. The CO will work in close collaboration with the programme team, notably the Programme Officer, and all the tripartite partners (including civil society in all its manifestations), international and local media, donors.
The CO will also liaise and work with relevant UN Somalia M&E and information inter-agency working groups. Given the major role communications plays in distance managing and then evaluating the work undertaken in collaboration with partners, this role will have a distinct monitoring and evaluation element ensuring all stakeholders in the programme are kept informed of data availability and that information is available to those charged with taking decisions on all aspects of the Programme.
