Vacancy: Finance Officer (FO/11/01)

The African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE) is an international not‐for‐profit organization of Agricultural economists working in Africa. Based in Nairobi, we are currently recruiting a Finance Officer who will be reporting to the Secretary/Treasurer of the Association, to handle day to day financial operations and be responsible for the overall financial management of the Secretariat’s books of accounts based on generally accepted accounting practices and AAAE’s financial policies and procedures.

Key duties:

•Office financial management
•To process and keep record of all financial transactions and preparation of a monthly financial report.
•Assist in preparation for compliance reviews and external audits as necessary

•Produce and review quarterly reports for any various accounts receivables
•Assist in the preparation of funding proposal budgets.
•Maintaining bank ledger and preparing bank reconciliation reports
•Capturing financial data into the financial system
•Assist in project budget formulation
•Periodically reconcile suppliers, consultants and staff advance statements to ensure that pending bills
are settled on time and follows up on overdue expenses as necessary
•File accounting documents on timely basis and in compliance with laid down financial policies and
procedure guidelines
•Collect and disburse cash and document all cash transactions
•Assist to develop annual budgets for program activities and office costs
•Processing payments, cash receipts, journal entries
•Manage petty cash

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree or equivalent
Minimum CPA III/ACCA or equivalent
At least 3 years practical experience as Finance officer for an NGO.
Proficient in MS Office suite particularly use of spreadsheets and accounting packages
Knowledge and experience in the use of QuickBooks and any other accounting software
Good knowledge of maintenance of ledgers, cash book and bank reconciliations
Demonstrated abilities in budget preparation
Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills to plan projects, timetable agreed activities,
implementation and reporting.
Knowledge of Donor reporting requirements.
Excellent organizational skills including the ability to handle a variety of assignments sometimes under
pressure of deadlines
Be of high ethical attitude towards work, integrity and have a sense of confidentiality.
Should have excellent oral and written communication skills.
