The New Forests Company is a vertically integrated Pan-African agro-industrial business that plants trees on sustainable commercial plantations and delivers value added wood products to a variety of markets in the East African Community.
The Company’s management philosophy focuses on commercial forestry, conservation and corporate responsibility to ensure a balanced approach in all activities.
Being the flagship operation of the Group, the Ugandan operation wishes to strengthen its management team by bringing on board a highly skilled yet hands on CFC, to take charge of both the financial and fiscal management of the company and assume responsibility for: business planning, tax planning, accounting and budgeting. The position holder will report to the Country CEO and Group CFO and manage a team of administrators and bookkeepers.
Over and above the plantations and pole treatment facility in Uganda, investments under management include an agriculture project, schools as well as plantation clinics in the districts in which the Company operates. The successful candidate will be responsible for robust practices which will build confidence with international investors in the business.
Specific duties will include:
* Contributing to strategic planning, then establishing and delivering on short and medium term departmental goals.
* Managing risk and corporate governance programmes in line with Group policy.
* Preparing board papers and engaging the board audit committee on company financial operations.
* Leading the annual budgeting processes and the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports.
* Ensuring that the company has optimal financial management systems and processes that are embedded with optimal internal controls and support smooth operations and reporting.
* Ensuring compliance with international financial reporting standards in respect to all accounting records management and reporting.
* Handling treasury operations, including cash flow planning and cash management and supporting Group Finance in equity and debt financing activities; and
* Developing a strong finance management structure and a competent team through hands-on training and assistance
* Integration of all financial information and analysis of data to ensure effective appropriation of investor funds
The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:
* Have a relevant university degree and a recognised professional accounting qualification such as: CA (SA), CPA (Uganda), CPA (Kenya), ACCA or equivalent.
* Excellent knowledge of the Company’s Act and related rules and regulations
* Experience in strategic planning and execution
* Demonstrated ability to independently manage a comprehensive finance function
* Skilled in contracting, negotiating,
* Ability to effectively manage change so as to enhance business processes and efficiencies
* Knowledge of finance and accounting software packages such as Sage or Pastel.
* Knowledge of tax related rules and legislation and the ability to interpret these.
* Proven analytical skills-ability to interpret or generate all types of financial data and financial reports, statements, and financial modeling and business plans.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Demonstrated leadership ability and team management skills
* A skillful problem solver and proven project management abilities.
