Organizational Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). These two posts are located in the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Division of Conference Service, Planning and Coordination Section, Information Technology Unit, at the Nairobi duty Station.Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Chief, Information Technology Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks: a). Administration of Conference equipment:
* Manning the operation of simultaneous interpretation equipment in all conference rooms;
* Liaise with relevant units to ensure proper maintenance of interpretations equipment in the conference rooms;
* Liaise with information branch for the acquisition, rental, servicing, movement and installation of public address systems for press conferences;
* Ensure that telephones and voice mails systems in conference rooms are in operation;
* Analyze service level provided by contractors;
* Coordinate operations of conference equipment during meetings;
* Guide the Chief on matters relating to operation of conference equipment. b). Audio-Visual Conference Services:
* Coordinate requests for video-conference services;
* Install, configure and test audio, video conference and desktop video conference hardware and software;
* Liaise with Information Technology and Communication Service to ensure installed video conference systems operates smoothly and meet the target;
* Ensure that preventative maintenance schedules are carried out per established guidelines; c). Supervision and Safety:
* Assist in installation and maintenance of conference and videoconference equipments and services:
* Assist in workflow analyses of existing procedures and drafting of new workflow;
* Assist in drafting operational performance standards and maintenance guidelines for conference and videoconference services;
* Analyse trends and support requests and level of service and support provided and identify future resources requirements;
* Coordinate and provide technical support to the Division and clients;
* Provide support and training of new users and supervise other staff.
* Maintain a register of all conference and video conference equipment and their movement;
* Research and evaluate new conference products
* Performs other related duties as may be assigned.

Education
Completion of secondary education, knowledge of the UN common system. Additional technical training in electronic, communication or computer technology is highly desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of 6 years of progressive of responsible experience in telecommunications, maintenance and servicing of conference and video conference equipment.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language an asset.

Special Notice
Appointment against this post is on a local basis. External candidates will be considered only when no suitable internal candidate from the duty station is identified. The candidate is responsible for any travel expenses incurred to take-up the appointment. Staff members are subject to the authority of and assignment by the Secretary-General. All staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures.
