Responsibilities
Under the general guidance of the Chief, UNON/ICTS/IMIS and the direct supervision of the Chief UNON/ICTS/IMS/EDC, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
1. Server Operations and Administration:
- Manage all aspects of the design, implementation and monitoring of the Enterprise Directory (LDAP) servers; Provide full range of technical assistance in the area of server/network operations and administration; Provide full range of technical assistance in the installation, configuration, testing and deployment of server hardware and software and various security software; Undertake the administration, operation, technical support and monitoring of server systems and conduct trouble shooting of servers; Liaise with other groups of ICTS and the user departments for maintaining the efficient and reliable operations of server systems; Perform 24 x 7 operations of assigned systems; Assist in identifying the need for new systems or re-engineering of the existing ones; Respond to requests from user offices and assist in deploying/configuring systems so as to conform to infrastructure standards; Provide full range of technical assistance in all aspects of user accounts and related security issues; Collect various statistics on the performance and reliability of server systems, and produce pertinent reports; Write and maintain the documentation of server systems, pertinent to operations and system administration.
2. Web and Application Development:
- Perform Unix scripting and programming to automate network administration tasks; Undertake web design and application development to provide interfaces for network administration.
3. Network Operation and Support:
- Troubleshoot and resolve network problems; Provide technical advice to Network users and coordinate user support services; Organize and conduct periodic user training sessions to ensure effective use of Network Services.
4. Perform other duties:
- Undertake the training and migration of existing systems to the Enterprise Directory Server;
Design and establish internal databases and files; Conduct frequent proactive/reactive audits;
Set guidelines and principles for problem reporting, resolution and follow-up.

Education
Completion of secondary education; Supplemental courses/technical certificate in information technology or other related field; Supplemental training to keep abreast of changes in information technology; An associate University degree or equivalent in computer science/information technology desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of six years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in the information technology field. Experience in the administration, management and operation of a large IT environment with MS servers required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of other United Nations language is desirable.
