AED’s Speak for the Child Program (SFC) seeks to recruit for an Economic Strengthening Officer. The program serves orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in Western and Nyanza Provinces of Kenya.

Position: Economic Strengthening Officer
Position Summary:
    * The Economic Strengthening Officer is responsible for monitoring and improving the economic strengthening activities of SFC’s CBO partners and caregiver support groups.
    * S/he will conduct assessments of current income generating activities (IGAs), develop tailored plans to sustain and improve IGAs, and support monitoring and reporting of IGA outcomes and related child improvements.
    * This position will report to the SFC Program Manager and be based in Kisumu, Nyanza Province. This position is initially funded through August 2011.
Duties & Responsibilities:
   1. Conduct assessments of IGAs currently being implemented by CBO partners and caregiver support groups to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
   2. Develop tailored improvement and sustainability plans in collaboration with CBO partners and caregiver support groups, drawing upon local and international best practices in economic strengthening for vulnerable and marginalized populations.
   3. Monitor the outcomes of economic strengthening activities in terms of income and assets generated and their related effects in supporting and improving the health, nutrition, and education of vulnerable children.
   4. Synthesize and document program lessons learned and best practices for economic strengthening activities for continuous improvement of quality and sustainability.
   5. Collaborate with the Organizational Development and Community Support Officers working with CBOs and caregiver support groups and with the M&E Advisor and Data Management team to ensure coordination of quality improvement, sustainability, and monitoring and evaluation activities.
   6. Collaborate with other civil society organizations implementing community-based economic strengthening initiatives.

Qualifications:
    * At least seven years of experience in the area of Economic Strengthening of vulnerable and marginalized populations or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
    * Bachelors’ degree level education.
    * Knowledge and experience with NGO operations and community-based programming.
    * Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially with community-based groups.
    * Use of Computers (MS Word, Excel, internet).
    * Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team is essential.

Position: Administration & Logistics Assistant

Position Summary:
    * The Administration and Logistics Officer will ensure efficient and effective operations of Speak for the Child by collaborating with and providing support to the Program Manager and staff.
    * S/he ensures compliance with AED Human Resources/Benefits, Accounting, and Contracts policies and procedures under the guidance of the Finance Manager.
    * S/he also ensures communication and coordination between senior technical staff and the Finance and Administrative team for effective program implementation.
    * S/he will report to the SFC Program Manager and be based in Kisumu, Nyanza Province.
    * This position is initially funded through August 2011.

Duties & Responsibilities:
   1. Provide logistical and administrative support to SFC grantee participants, staff and consultants during all stages of technical assignments.
   2. Coordinate the logistics for program travel, equipment, and supplies.
   3. Manage procurement of project supplies in a timely, transparent, effective and efficient manner.
   4. Manage project stock systems and planning and distributions of commodities.
   5. Support the Program Manager in administrative duties including: research, coordination, and communication.
   6. Develop and maintain shared electronic and physical records of SFC work and ensure all program information is availed to the AED Washington DC office, as necessary.
   7. Ensure good communication within and outside the project. Represent the project and its goals to callers, writers, and visitors from the community, NGOs, and CBOs as needed.

Qualifications:

    * At least five years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
    * Bachelors’ degree level education.
    * Knowledge of NGO operations and management.
    * High proficiency in use of computer (MS Word, Excel, internet, databases, etc.) is essential.
    * Demonstrate good negotiation skills, diplomacy and sensitivity in dealing with partners.
    * Ability to work with minimal supervision, good communication skills and ability to work with international audience required.
    * Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative team.

Position: Community Development Officer

Position Summary:

    * The Community Development Officer is responsible for providing grassroots level technical support and guidance to the caregiver support groups, through their respective CBOs, to ensure the continuation of “care giver group-lead” and sustainable OVC service delivery.
    * S/he will support the CBOs to facilitate, promote and ensure that the activities of the caregiver support groups are linked to other locally available resources and services within the government and civil society organizations.
    * In collaboration with SFC Program Coordinator and Data Management Team, s/he will provide close supportive supervision and spot-checks to OVC households through the respective CBOs.
    * This position will report to the SFC Program Manager and be based in Kisumu, Nyanza Province.
    * This position is initially funded through August 2011.

Duties & Responsibilities:

   1. Conduct organizational capacity assessment for the caregiver support groups to determine training needs on organizational management.
   2. Conduct caregivers knowledge and skills gap on care and support for OVC, determine training needs and plan for training based on identified needs.
   3. Promote linkages between government ministries (e.g. Health and Children’s department), other stakeholders and civil society organizations.
   4. Facilitate, guide and direct the caregiver support groups in a proactive approach to planning and addressing identified OVC and caregiver needs.
   5. Facilitate the formation of children’s clubs at caregiver support group level and provide technical oversight into their functions and linkages with relevant institutions.
   6. Document services provided to OVC and caregivers including lessons learnt, best practices and human success stories.
   7. Contribute to quality assessment, improvement, and integration of the family-centered and community based model of OVC care.
   8. Participate in routine supervision and follow up on OVC and caregiver service delivery by SFC trained mentors.
   9. Participate, on behalf of the Program Manager and Coordinator, in locational and sub-locational Area Advisory Councils.
  10. Coordinate with the Organizational Development and Economic Strengthening Officer.
  11. Collaborate with the M&E Advisor and Data Management team to ensure quality and timely data collection at the caregiver group level.

    * Bachelors’ degree level education.
