Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Corporation Secretary, the Senior Legal Officer will be responsible for all Commercial Legal issues including:
•Drafting, perusing and vetting contracts;
•Drawing leases and reviewing the same at regular intervals;
•Assisting in debt collection;
•Attending to the Board of Directors in convening meetings, taking minutes, et cetera.
•Providing sound Legal advisory services to Management and the Board of Directors;
•Participating in formulation and review of legal Policies and procedures for the Corporation;
•Carrying out research and preparing reports/ legal opinions on complex legal issues;
•Sensitizing Management on statutory provisions affecting the Corporation;
•Participating in negotiations on concession related matters;
•Research on policy changes required a new legal and regulatory framework for the railway sector in Kenya;
•Negotiating out of court settlements with Corporation’s creditors;
•Monitoring contractual and statutory compliance;
•Dealing with legal aspects relating to the Corporation’s land;
•Handling insurance matters on behalf of the Corporation;
•Assisting the Corporation Secretary in discharging such other duties as may be allocated from time to time.
Requirements
•Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized university;
•Post graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law
Certificate of admission to the Roll of Advocates of the High Court of Kenya;
•Current year’s practicing Certificate;
•years post admission relevant work experience OR 5 years with a Masters Degree in law;
•Strong analytical and negotiation skills;
•Computer literacy and familiarity with standard office computer applications;
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
•Capacity to work in a very busy office with strict deadlines
