International NGO Prevention of Mother to Child (PMTCT) Nurse Trainer Vacancy
An international NGO, implementing comprehensive HIV prevention, care and treatment programs to facilitate the Kenya Ministries of Medical Services and Public Health to control the spread of HIV and rapidly scale up HIV services with primary goal of supporting the scale-up of HIV prevention, care, and treatment activities, institute continuous quality improvement methods as well as the M & E infrastructure necessary to support these services, within designated health care facilities in Nairobi is seeking suitably qualified Kenyans able to fill the above position.
Prevention of Mother to Child (PMTCT) Nurse Trainer will report to Senior Technical Advisor
Purpose of Position
Under the supervision of the STA, the PMTCT Nurse Trainer will provide opportunities for nurses involved in the care of patients with HIV/AIDS to update their clinical knowledge and skills and improve clinical decision making skills regarding patient care through nurse specific training and mentoring of point of service and Community Nurses, Community Health Care workers and Traditional Birth Attendants (CHCWs)
Qualification
* Higher Nursing degree: BSN or Register Nurse/ Midwife
* Training experience required.
* Current clinical practice as a nurse
* At least 3 years of recent experience in the care of patients affected by HIV/AIDS, PMTCT, Safe delivery practices and Care of the newborn.
Job Knowledge * Understanding of PMTCT guidelines
* Understanding of adult training methodologies.
* Clinical terminology and medical concerns.
* Task shifting strategies.
Key Functions
* This is mainly a training role with particular emphasis in developing an effective practical nurses mentorship program that addresses emerging practice needs with focus of PMTCT and task shifting.
* Analyze programmatic data and develop interventions for poor results for a multi regional care and treatment program.
* Prepares and distributes clinical and educational material.
* Representation of the organization in various local fora
Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide education to community and facility nursing staff, CHEWs and TBAs (CHCWs) to increase their knowledge and skills related to PMTCT and care of infected mothers, exposed based and general care of mothers and newborns through nurse specific training.
* Adapt educational material, teaching aids and clinic reference material to assist these CHCWs at the point of service.
* Have periodic visits to each POS and on as needed basis for needs assessment, mentoring CHCWs identifying challenges/problem solving including evaluation of current skill level.
* Participate in training programs for nursing care, adherence, palliative care and support.
* Coordinate the IHV community mentoring team and act as liaison between the Community care team and the facility for technical issues
* Develops and implements a professional development plan in conjunction with program lead.
* Participate in report writing, provide information, and act as a liaison and POS advocate.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Capacity to work both in a team and independently and the ability to utilize adult learning strategies in education.
* Willingness and ability to travel extensively to work with the CHCWs staff of the Community Care Teams.
* Ability to provide written communication in a timely manner and adjusted to various levels of comprehension.
* Will have extensive contact with faculty, physicians, subcontracted agency staff, sponsoring agency and patients at points of service
