I Choose Life – Africa (ICL) is one of the leading Non-Governmental Organizations that has contributed greatly to HIV prevention efforts among the youth in Kenya today.

The NGO was incepted in 2002 with an objective of contributing to the reduction of HIV prevalence and susceptibility to infections among the youth in institutions of higher learning.

After a successful first year at the University of Nairobi in 2003, the Commission for Higher Education (CHE) recommended ICL to all Kenyan universities.

Since then, the program has successfully expanded to over 28 institutions (tertiary institutions and high schools) across six provinces in Kenya. ICL’s vision is to see ‘an AIDS free Africa. Its goal is to contribute to the Kenya National AIDS Strategic Plan to reduce HIV, improve the quality of life of those infected and affected and mitigate the socio-economic impact of HIV/AIDS.

ICL’s mission is to create a movement of caring communities among students that make responsible and informed choices with regards to Life and HIV & AIDS through prevention, care and support and mitigation of socio-economic impact.

We are seeking a suitable person to fill in the position of a Resources Mobilization Officer (RMO)

The details of the vacancy are as follows:

JOB PURPOSE
The RMO will take a lead role in identifying and sourcing for funding and resource opportunities from multiple sources, and will coordinate and manage the grant management.

The RMO will further take a lead role in the design and implementation of the Resource Mobilization strategy including management and coordination of grants, representation and building relations with donors at the country & regional level, provision of technical support and advice on proposal development to the Fundraising and Program Development team members both at country and field level offices and the development of innovative approaches in mobilizing resources.



KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Provide strategic Leadership in Designing, Planning, Implementation and review of Resource Mobilization Strategy and Funding Plans of I Choose Life-Africa.

* Support development and implementation of grant-management system and processes at country level

* Prescribe, lead and research on donor environment and marketing initiatives to assess donor priorities and identify opportunities for resource mobilization.

* Lead the identification of funding opportunities and development of proposals.

* Develop reporting procedures and guidelines to ensure quality and timely submission of donor reports.

* Assist the Corporate Communication and Marketing Officer to define, implement, evaluate and continually improve ICL’s marketing/communications strategy, including corporate positioning, comparative advantage, key success factors and major players (stakeholders, influencers and competitors).

* Identify, develop, maintain and guide I Choose Life-Africa in planning for and management of respective partners that the organization can engage with at the local, Regional, National and international level.

* Maintain close contact and pursue a focused dialogue with all decentralized multilateral and bilateral donor agencies in Kenya with the aim of raising the profile of I Choose Life-Africa.

* Develop and maintain database of donors, project concept notes and project proposals

* Work hand in hand with the National Offices to identify existing and potential grant opportunities for Kenya in the donor countries.

* Develop, implement and regularly update strategies for resource mobilization with a focus on expanding the available resource base, and provide regular reporting on the progress of the funding plan.

* Profile I Choose Life-Africa within the donor communities in Kenya based on the organization’s specific programmatic niche and contributions.


ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND PERSONALITY DESIRED:-

* A minimum of a University degree in Economics, Social work, Communications & Marketing or related development field.

* A masters’ degree in development, management, or a related development field is desirable.

* A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in a related field and resources mobilization.

* A strong awareness of current issues in the field of development.

* Proven computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft software including MS Word processing, Power point presentation, Excel spreadsheets, e-mail and web based research.

* Use of virtual office applications will be an added advantage.

* Experience in networking with local and international NGOs, NOs/donors, Ministry-level partners, and local community-based organizations.

* Experience in fund raising and resource mobilization at local and international levels.

* Knowledge of various donor requirements.

* Extensive knowledge in Program, development and management.

* Proven ability to develop and write grant proposals and concepts.

* Excellent networking and partnership building skills.

* Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
