CARE International in Kenya (CIK) is a development and humanitarian organization with a goal to reduce poverty at the household level and provide relief in emergencies. CIK has been operational in Kenya since 1968.
It currently carries out major initiatives in Refugee and Emergency Operations. It is the lead agency under UNHCR and WFP (for water/hygiene, food distribution, formal education and community development) in 3 camps along the Somali border comprised of a population of over 250,000 refugees.
CIK also carries out significant initiatives in Health and HIV/AIDS , Water and Environmental Sanitation (WatESan) and Livelihoods. Its priority regions are Nyanza Province (with a sub-office in Kisumu), Nairobi slums and North Eastern Province (with sub-offices in Garissa and Dadaab and field offices in Elwak and Marsabit).
In its mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world, CARE International in Kenya's program funded by Boeing dubbed Expanding Access to Safe Water in Garissa District works to ensure that vulnerable populations have reliable access to clean water. The project's goal is to assist schools in Fafi district in North Eastern Kenya access safe drinking water and promote hygiene standards.
CARE International in Kenya (CIK) is looking for suitably qualified candidates to fill the following positions:
Grant Officer
Ref: GO- 8/2010 (Based in Garissa)
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Grant Officer will be responsible for overseeing the sub-grants to groups engaged in alternative and complementary livelihoods in the project area, co-ordinating the financial aspects of the groups supported under ARC project, ensuring transparent systems in targeting and determining specific needs of these groups and designing support activities and procedures.
He/she will be required to closely monitor the groups to make quality impacts and will work closely with other ARC project team members including Business Development Officer, Livestock Production Officer and Monitoring & Evaluation Officer.
Field Officer - Group Savings and Loans (Economic Empowerment),Ref: FO-8/2010,(Based in Takaba)
Reporting to Project Officer, the Field Officer will be responsible for facilitating community mobilization including sensitizing and organizing activity planning and implementation, monitoring and evaluation at community level to enhance resilience to Drought and to strengthen their economic capacity to cater for their needs and the vulnerability in times of drought.
The incumbent will work with identified women groups, pastoral production groups, livestock product preservation groups in implementation of group savings and loans and Business Development Skills (BDS) development.
He/she will also work with the project team in identifying areas requiring strengthening among the selected partner Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and subsequently develop a capacity building strategy and assist its implementation to address the identified areas.
In liaison with co- field officers, he will be expected to ensure quality and holistic implementation of all programme activities and in the identification and establishment of any relevant partnerships for synergistic engagements with stakeholder to enhance desired outcomes.
Project Officer Livestock,Ref: POL- 8/2010,(Based in Takaba)Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Officer Livestock will be responsible for improving livelihoods of the community to enhance drought preparedness and planning by use of livestock and livestock products for the RREAD project including working with community groups to develop business skills and promote alternative livelihoods.
Tractor Driver, Ref: TD-8/2010,(Based in Dadaab)
Reporting to the Sanitation Officer at the camp level, the incumbent will be responsible for transporting garbage which is stored in skips, from the collection points in the camp to the land fill where the skips will be emptied.
He will be required to supervise a team of loaders and solid waste workers.
