The Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) is a membership-based organization registered in Kenya as a Company Limited by Guarantee and without share capital. It was registered in 2006 at the request, and through the efforts of, key stakeholders in all three sections of the grain value chain; producers, traders and processors. Service providers are Associate members. It operates as a non-profit, non-political, non-denominational organization, which prepares, disseminates, and promotes the exchange of information on matters affecting the regional grain industry.Area of Operation:
Even though the council is registered in Nairobi , Kenya , EAGC is not restrictive in terms of geographical coverage and subscribes to an “ Africa wide” view. Companies located outside the Eastern Africa region may apply for membership provided they meet the criteria.
The EAGC Mission Statement :
The mission statement of Eastern Africa Grain Council is “ EAGC is the recognized regional grain trade organization dedicated to the task of improving the policy and trade environment for the betterment of the grain sector from producer to consumer”.
The council expects to achieve this by creating long-term solutions that will address the various issues and constraints of the grain industry in the region
The objects of the Council are to:
* Promote a well functioning regional grain supply chain, focusing on trade issues affecting all sectors of the chain, and building a platform for reducing constraints in regional grain trade
* Build cooperation, interaction, partnerships, alliances, networks and market linkages
* Collect market data, generate information exchange and share regional expertise
* Promote investment in structured marketing systems including warehouse receipts and commodity exchanges.
* Act as main certification authority in structured systems; and provide commercial services as needed
* Recognize and support accepted principles of international codes of corporate conduct
* Facilitate awareness of new technologies
* Represent the regional membership at national, regional and international forums, and lead advocacy and lobbying actions for best interests of Council members

Executive Director
We seek to fill this position with an experienced leader with a strategic and entrepreneurial mind in addition to a passion for development economics. You will have overall responsibility for the growth and development of the Council.
Based in our Nairobi office and reporting to the Board Chairperson, you will be expected to among other things:
* Develop and recommend regional strategic and business plans to the Board of Directors consistent with the vision and mission of the Council
* Interpret and implement the Board’s decisions, act as the Secretary to the Board and be the link between the Council Secretariat staff and the Board.
* Establish internal monitoring and control systems, processes and procedures for the Council
* Effectively manage the relationships and communication with members, donors, government and other stakeholders.
* Develop and implement the fundraising strategy of the Council and effectively manage the Council’s finances and other assets.
* Effectively manage the Council Secretariat staff in the region, set performance standards and monitor as well guide, train, develop and discipline.
Requirements
You will be a university degree holder, preferably at masters level with experience from the private sector in marketing or supply chain management. Experience of working in partnership with development partners, government bodies and NGOs is necessary; experience of working in public private partnerships (PPP) will be a definite advantage.
We are also looking for experience of managing an organization or a large department with proven experience of financial management including budgeting and budgetary control and cashflow management. Exposure to the work dynamics of the East Africa region is highly desirable.
