OUR CLIENT IS A NATIONAL LEADER IN MOBILE TELEPHONY. THE COMPANY SEEKS TO RECRUIT A COMPETENT, EXPERIENCED ENGINEER FOR THE POSITION OF MANAGER – ENERGY MANAGEMENT
Position Title:Manager – Energy Management
Reports to:Head – Network Operations
Duty Station:Nairobi, Kenya


Basic Purpose:

Energy is one of the biggest cost constituents in the Company’s operations. It is therefore imperative that
the cost element of Expenditure on it is fully optimized without compromising on customer experience or
network quality. The position holder shall control and manage the operating expenditure on Energy for the
network nodes spread out in the country
through Innovation and best practices, including through
replication from other countries where success has been registered. It will be necessary to have end-to-
end planning and delivery of Energy cost , monitoring and analysis followed by roll-out of action plans in
order to enable the organization to become a low cost producer. The position holder will be responsible for
bringing in cost efficiencies in mobile site, fibre networks & multiple VSAT links. The position will require
extremely high degree of co-ordination with Opco’s, Partners, Finance and SCM teams.
Principle Accountabilities: The principles accountabilities, as measured by the expected end results shall include:Expected End Results

Major Activities

To Plan Energy Cost – Annual
Operating plan (AOP) for entire
network portfolio (Mobile, National
long distance and International long
distance Networks).
•Obtaining business inputs, capex forecast, past trends,efficiency built up and execution plan to achieve the AOP Monitoring, analysis, and control for the Energy Cost to Achieve the AOP
•Ensuring correct deliverables through Energy OpEx Managers, consistent monitoring, reviewing, direction and support.
•Continuous engagement of Strategic Partner/ Infra providers ( Like Ericsson / NSN / ALU / Huwaei / Infra Partners etc)
•Replication of best practices.
•Innovate & implement the Energy cost Savings features in spread out network elements, eg. (DG delay features, Auto TRX shutdown feature, Diesel consumption standardization, obtain Electricity with least tariff etc) Enable the Company to become one of the lowest cost producers in the world.
•Through Cost innovation & best practice replication & optimising Energy Cost.
Establish and enhance quality of engagement with Partners / Infra providers (Like Ericsson / NSN / ALU /
ToCo’s etc.)
•Involving / carrying our pilots with partners / Infra providers for new innovations to achieve optimized Energy cost. To enhance Employee satisfaction and professional development
•By continuous employee engagement, rewards and recognition, training and development of Opco employees. Deliver / overachieve AOP Energy Opex.
•Periodic Review with O&M head
•Monthly review with Infra providers / partners / Finance team.
•Opex Strategy plan implementation / periodical review and Monitoring

Major Challenges:
•Creating synergy amongst the opco team and partners.
•Achieve globally benchmarked best Energy opex KPI’s with Partners and Infra providers
•Absorption of Unit price hike of Diesel and Electricity without increasing network opex Speedy
implementation of new energy cost saving initiatives through Infra providers / partners
•Optimizing energy opex without impacting network quality / Customer satisfaction.

Essential Skills & Knowledge: Education
•Be in possession of a university degree in Engineering/ Technology in Electrical/E&TC
Relevant Experience:
•Minimum 8 – 10 years of versatile experience on Electrical infrastructure like Gensets , Batteries , LT
Panels , Energy efficiency features , solar panels , electrical product specifications etc.
•Should have an understanding of latest telecom Technologies and products to bring cost efficiency
•Experience gained in the telecommunication sector will be highly desirable.
