GRANTS MONITORING AND REVIEW OFFICERS – 2 Positions
UNDP Kenya and Development Partners have established a Civil Society Democratic Governance (CSDG) Facility,under the UNDP Country Programme Action Plan, known as Amkeni Wakenya. This Facility, under the Democratic Governance Unit, has an objective to support the country in its efforts to uphold democratic governance, human rights and the rule of law through enhanced empowerment of the people and strengthening of relevant governance institutions.
Amkeni provides support to civil society organizations working on the demand side of promoting democratic governance, and the protection and promotion of human rights in Kenya. One of the ways it does this is by funding CSOs who meet specific qualification criteria after various expressions of interest/calls for proposals. The facility has so far contracted 41 CSOs whose financial reports need to be reviewed in order to make
the second fund transfers.
Position Information
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Programme Manager, the Grant Monitoring Officer will support Programme Officers to review the Financial and narrative reports from Implementing Partners, ensuring that Implementing Partners adhere to the UN standards of procurement and Financial Reporting Guidelines and
Requirements; that IPs present adequate supporting documents for payments. In addition, Grants Monitoring
Officers will also be required to draft individual Feedback Report to the CSOs documenting areas that need
correction and adjustment. Grants Monitoring and Review Officers will also be required to undertake field
missions, in conjunction with Programme Officers, to assess the validity of information provided as well as assess impact and progress of grant-aided activities.
Qualifications
CPA II or any other equivalent professional certification in Finance or Accounting
Experience
4 years experience financial management of donor funded projects
2 years experience of assessing grants made to civil society and community projects.
Experience providing financial monitoring services
Proficiency in computer applications – Ms Word, Ms Excel-spreadsheets
Previous work experience with UN will be an added-advantage
Ability to complete tasks on time
Duration:
The above assignment is for a period of 8 weeks.
