Our client, a multinational organization based in Nairobi is looking for talent to fill the position of Health & Safety Manager – East Africa
HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGER – EAST AFRICA
Reporting to the Operations Director, Central Africa the position will be required to lead the development and implementation of Health & Safety strategies, systems and initiatives which integrate safety as a core business value which is consistent across the business.
To offer expert knowledge and skills in order to generate and promote a positive health and safety culture which represents a key role in controlling occupational risk.
Responsible for ensuring that all safety and health legislation is adhered to and policies and practices are
adopted in all sites within Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
To develop a culture of Health & Safety vigilance, accountability, ownership, awareness and leadership across the business for the purpose of achieve ‘Goal Zero’ within our business activities.
Main Responsibilities:
• Creating new or make relevant changes to working practices
that are safe and comply with legislation.
• Preparing Health & Safety strategies and developing internal
policy.
• Carrying out risk assessments to comply with Health & Safety
legislation and ensure all potential risks are identified and control
measures implemented and monitored.
• Carry out Occupational Road Risk assessments which will mitigate
the cost of road traffic accidents and equipment damage,
dangerous occurrences be they minor or major in nature and
personal injury.
• Outlining safe operational procedures which identify and take
account of all relevant hazards.
• In conjunction with relevant company Departments, ensure
comprehensive Assessment & Training in Lorry Driving, Forklift
and all other work equipment is carried out in regards to company
Standards and Health & Safety Regulation, and establish a
monitoring and measuring system.
• Facilitate the maintenance and management of Health & Safety
Minimum Standards through systems, audit/inspection and the
establishment of high standards and expectations on employees.
• Carrying out regular site and off site inspections to check policies
and procedures are being properly implemented.
• Leading in-house training, developing managers and employees in
health, safety and environmental skills in order to develop and
sustain a positive Health and Safety awareness culture and reduce
risk.
• Keeping records of incidents, accidents and near miss events and
producing statistics and action plan advice for managers.
• Provide
appropriate accident and incident investigation methodology to ensure personal accountability and improve risk management,including monitoring, interpretation and presentation of statistical data.
• Producing management reports, newsletters and bulletins.
• Help to plan, implement, monitor and review the protective and
preventative measures that the company is required to follow to
minimize operational losses, occupational health problems,
accidents and injuries.
• Advising on appropriate specialist areas e.g. fire regulations,
hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding of machinery and
occupational diseases.
• Organize & attend Health & Safety meetings to provide competent
advice and manage the administration of the meetings.
• In liaison with the Site Management, Audit and Check the
readiness of the Business Continuity Management system and
arrangements in order to provide the management teams with a
reliable range of options for times of catastrophe and curtailment.
• Develop Safety Representatives from internal business unit
entities.
• Conduct liaison with client and company management in relation
• Implement and monitor the Contractor Management Safety
System.
• Implement behavioral improvement strategies which result in
accountability by all employees.
• Ensure the “best practices” within the Company are reported and
that initiatives to implement these practices are put into place.
Qualifications:
A Degree qualification, Certification in H & S Audits & Assessments,
Certification in Risk Assessment & Environmental Safety.
Experience required:
3 years management experience in a multinational company with a
large scope of responsibilities.

Knowledge of the East African countries’ Health & Safety Act, Road
Safety Act, Environmental Act
