Intern Job Opportunity With An NGO.
Handicap International (HI) is an INGO specializing in the field of disability and development.A strong emphasis is placed on empowering persons with disabilities and their representatives, through their full participation into mainstream development processes and the provision of appropriate and accessible social, health and rehabilitation services, in order to ensure equal opportunities for all.

Context analysis

Currently, Handicap International is actively implementing HIV and AIDS initiatives in 11 countries in the world (9 in Africa and 3 in South East Asia). In support to these different projects, a Technical Advisor on HIV and AIDS is providing technical assistance from Nairobi,Kenya. The Advisor is seeking an intern to support her on specific areas of work.

Objectives

To provide active assistance to the organization of a 5-day regional HIV and AIDS
workshop, in close collaboration with the HIV and AIDS Technical Advisor and Logistician
of workshop host country
To conduct a literature review on HIV and AIDS, in linked with disability, SRH and SGBV
o To conduct a sub literature review on existing tools/guidelines related to disability
(cross impairment) mainstreaming into HIV and AIDS programmes
To assist on any other arising issues delegated by the HIV and AIDS Technical Advisor,
based on skills and capacities

Expected results
Organizing and critical thinking skills enhanced at the end of this internship
Increased knowledge related to HIV & AIDS and disability intersectionality
The regional HIV and AIDS workshop is organized in February 2011, as per requirements
(TOR, preparation, documentation and logistical coordination)
A complete literature review on HIV and AIDS in linked with disability, SRH and SGBV is
available by the end of December 2010/beginning of January 2011
A sub literature review on tools/guidelines related to disability mainstreaming into HIV and
AIDS programming is done by the end of January 2011Activities
In relation to workshop organization
o Finalization of TOR
o Action plan of workshop activities, with follow up
o Coordination with host country logistician and key representatives (accommodation,
transportation, accessible venue, stationary, etc.)
o Preparation of relevant documentation for the workshop (material, articles,
workshop package)
o Master list of facilitators and participants (internal and external to HI)
o Fine tuning of workshop in close collaboration with Advisor

Terms of Reference HIV and AIDS Intern – November 2010

o Minute taking during the workshop
In relation to literature review
o Consult HI’s documentation manager and internal online resources centre
o Consult websites such as Source, IDDC, UNAIDS, AIDSTAR-One, etc.
o Visit relevant organizations in Kenya when relevant
o Conduct a literature review on selected topics
o Reports of both literature reviews
o List of bibliography used

Duration and allowances
3 months (renewable)
Daily allowances will be provided as per the rules and regulations of Handicap
International – Kenya/Somalia programme

Requirements
Currently pursuing or about to finish an university degree (Bachelor and Master) in health
studies, public health or any other related fields
Experience or assignment done in the field of HIV and AIDS
Excellent command of English language
Strong analytical and synthesizing skills
Strong organizing and interpersonal skills
Computer and internet literate
Should be a self-starter and able to equally work alone or in a team
Should be independent and passionate about her/his work

Desirable

Candidates that have recently graduated are eligible for the position
