The dos and don’ts during an interview.
Many people have emailed us that they have been invited for interviews and they want tips on how to nail the job. Well today we are going to share some tips on how to carry yourself in an interview room which increases your chances of getting the vacancy that you had applied for. An interviewer or a panelist can easily tell a good candidate from the entry manners. During an interview be careful and be a master of the conversation and not the servant. Create a good first impression and be careful on your punch-line at the end of the interview.
Now, below is a list of the things that you should do to get that coveted job and the things you will do not to miss out on it:
Dos
These should be like you Ten Commandments that you should carry always when going for an interview. Just memorize them and go through them when going for a job interview.
1. Be very well prepared by doing research on the prospective employer.
2. Be sparkling clean and smartly dressed. Observe basic grooming etiquettes like brushing your teeth, your hair should be short, clean clothes and more.
3. Carry copies of you CV, academic and non-academic certificates.
4. Know the venue early to avoid last minute rush.
5. Appear confident and whether you are not, pretend to be.
6. Wait to be invited to a sit.
7. Put your hand apart and corporate posture.
8. Your eyes should be directly in the interviewer’s face, and if they are a panel, face the one asking the question.
9. Address the interviewer by name and if you can’t recall from the introduction, please ask politely again.
10. Engage the interviewers in a conversation so that you are not thrown hard questions at but be carefuk not to take over the conversation. Let him/ her appear in control but don’t be punched. This will help you to ask questions in case you have any or you should prepare well for questions.
Donts
1. Don’t try to crack jokes and if you have to do it, it should be while in a conversation after you have read the behaviors of the team.
2. Don’t dress in very bright colors and if you have to, please combine them with dark colors.
3. Don’t sit without being invited for a sit.
4. Don’t be reckless how you sit, don’t fold your hands protectively simply said be comfortable.
5. Don’t stray your eyes out of the room like you are not concentrating.
6. Don’t seem to think so much of a single question. Be apt and very sharp in answering questions.
7. Don’t put you palm on your chin, it shows sorrow and grief.
8. Don’t appear strange to offices. Be comfortable with the surrounding.
9. Don’t touch any office stuff and things that are lying around.
10. Don’t direct the interviewer, things that are suggestive to his dressing and showing him how to do things should be avoided.
We cannot exhaust all these attributes but we promise a comprehensive article on this later. Have this as a small reference guide to behaviors during an interview. Be careful and as we have advised in this site before, please engage an interviewer in a conversation and avoid questions being thrown at you and you answer them with closed answers. This may make a conversation boring. Just assume that you have met this people and make them feel the same way.
We wish you all the best.
