Challenges Worldwide is an international development charity. We work on behalf of our local partners to match skilled volunteers to assignments in developing countries where their skills are urgently required.
We need a driven IT professional to assist our partner organisation in Kenya. The successful candidate will use their professional experience to help build a knowledge-base on child rights and human rights, make optimal use of ICT to advance the goals of the organisation and address capacity/ skills gaps of members of staff.
Organisation Background
The organisation is a non-partisan, non profit making and non-governmental organization committed to the protection, promotion and enhancement of the rights of the child through court representation, advocacy, research and law reform.
The organisation was founded primarily by a group of Christian Lawyers to respond to the need for provision of juvenile justice following a research and baseline survey in 1997 on the provision of justice to children in Kenya. The research showed the absence of institutional mechanisms to respond to this issue. The organisation was born to respond to this need and was officially launched on 7th December 1998.
Duties and Responsibilities
Investigate implementation of a CMS to take the website from static to dynamic, re-design and manage the website
Develop a child rights portal within the main website as a link to a separate child friendly websites
Cataloguing and coding of resource centre books and other resources on child rights
Create and implement a database system for recording cases handled by the organisation
Update the website on emerging jurisprudence and law reform processes in Kenya and international processes on child rights
Standardize documentation procedures across programmes by creating an effective records and archival management system for automating and maintaining all the existing records in the organization
Capacity building of all staff members on basic ICT skill and information management especially desktop publishing, SPSS, Ms Project.
Skills and Experience Required
This will generally include:Strong TCP/IP networking skills
Web design & CMS experience
Experience in developing database systems
Experience in library management and cataloguing and classification systems will be an added advantage
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
Strong analytical skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
They will also be:
Self motivated with the ability to work independently
Professional, flexible, resourceful, adaptable, creative and culturally sensitive.
Ability to work in a team
Please note that this is a voluntary position. Our volunteers are required to raise some funds to cover their time overseas. Challenges Worldwide offers you full support and assistance to reach your fundraising targets.
