Responsibilities:

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org).

The post is located in the Resource Management Section (RMS) of the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS). Under the general guidance and direct supervision of the Chief
, UNON/ICTS/RMS the incumbent will be responsible for the Integrated Management Information Systems (IMIS) troubleshooting and helpdesk support. In addition, the incumbent will take part in the in-house development and implementation of applications required for supporting and facilitating the day-to-day operation surrounding IMIS. In particular the incumbent will:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Helpdesk support and databases operations guidance and training:
Be part of IMIS Helpdesk by providing support to IMIS users about pre-encumbrance, obligations, travel request and other IMIS user sessions, draft and prepare training materials and provide training and demonstrations to users on RMS supported Systems and any other applications as may be required.
Provide IT related technical advice to users e.g. on most suitable hardware/software for different tasks.
Advise users on data entry, enquiry and reporting on the databases supported by ICTS/RMS

2) System Development

a) Take part in the design of new computer applications or releases, code program modules using various programming languages as established in UN standards for IT technology, compile test data, design reports and code reporting modules using appropriate reporting tools, test functionalities and debug all modules and linkages and implement the systems/releases.
b) Design and create technical and user documentation for application systems/releases; maintain the same to document any changes on technical issues or in operations procedures.
c) Continuously monitor, develop and enhance all Systems supported by ICTS/RMS to ensure quality service delivery, and, when necessary, troubleshoot and debug erroneous code.
d) Develop WEB enabled applications for on-line transactions and reporting and for ease of performing different daily tasks and producing specific reports in the areas of Human Resources, Finance and Support Services.

3) Responsibility for reporting on databases:

a) Provide suitable and appropriate reporting tools for RMS databases.
b) Ensure data accuracy for the integrity and reliability of database reports.
c) Design and develop suitable modules to meet ad hoc reporting needs and conduct such reporting.
d) Perform any other IMIS related duties as required.
e) Keep abreast of developments in the field.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school or equivalent diploma. Technical training certificate in application software systems development or other related field is required. Post secondary studies in computer science or a related field is desirable.
Work Experience:
A minimum of six year of relevant and progressively responsible experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development and technical writing or related field. Knowledge and experience in using Business Objects for reporting or any other reporting tool for generating reports. Experience with MS SQL and/or MySQL and/or Sybase is required. Experience in developing applications using Delphi, C#.Net or Java/JavaScript is required.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of other United Nations language is desirable.
Other Desirable Skills:
At least five years of designing and developing applications in the areas of HR, Finance, Procurement and administrative areas is required.
