Amref Project Officer Job Kenya.
We are looking an individual, who is organized, highly motivated and results oriented to join a dynamic team and help bring better health for Africa for the Community Surveillance and Identification of groups at Risk for Infection with H1N1 in East Africa, Project.
The project aims at establishing community surveillance systems for Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) with emphasis on H1N1 within East Africa by working with the Ministries of Health, to develop surveillance tools and methodologies using accepted sampling techniques. The Project is funded by Rockefeller Foundation Inc.

The position reports to the Laboratory Manager and is based in Nairobi.
Purpose of the Job
To provide technical expertise and support project activities and implementation of the project strategy.
Roles and Responsibilities
•Lead the activities of the project in Research and M&E in collaboration with Laboratory Program Staff and
AMREF Country Office M&E and Research Officers.
•Develop research protocols for the project.
•Co-ordinate day-to-day operations of the project and communicate with collaborating partners.
•Working closely with the relevant Ministries of Health and other stakeholders in the implementation of
disease surveillance activities.
•Oversee project management and planning, data collection, analysis and reporting.
•Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports relating the project; assist in preparation of annual proposal
and progress reports as per donor requirements.
•Provide technical and scientific support in development and writing of concepts and proposals, for research
and documentation of activities.
•Participate in capacity building activities, field visits and meetings with relevant partners and stakeholders.
Qualifications and Competencies
The candidate should have as a minimum Bachelors Degree or equivalent in health related field preferably in Medical Laboratory Science. Post graduate qualification and professional training in M&E are desirable. At least five (5) years of relevant work experience in a research and clinical/laboratory environment. Excellent computer skills including SPSS, STATA and Epi info.
Experience of working with the Ministries of Health will be an added advantage. In addition the candidate must have strong analytical and problem solving skills. Have excellent interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to prioritize duties and work under minimal supervision.
