Project Description

Heshima Kenya is a nongovernmental organization based in Nairobi, Kenya dedicated to identifying, protecting and empowering unaccompanied refugee minors, especially adolescent girls, through our specialized shelter, education and advocacy programs. Heshima Kenya is seeking a Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) Program Officer to manage a SGBV prevention and response program through community dialogue, trainings, and the facilitation of an emergency referral fund for at-risk refugee women living in Nairobi. This one-year contract will build the capacity of Heshima Kenya's community outreach program and deepen and improve the skills and knowledge of refugee community members and partner organizations about SGBV and sexual exploitation.

Primary Responsibilities:
    * Responsible for the overall management, planning, assessing and implementing of the program:
    * Training: Carryout training programs about SGBV and sexual exploitation with 300 members of the refugee community.
    * Case Management: Prove essential case management services to refugee women who have experienced trauma or are at-risk for SGBV.
    * Community Collaboration: Lead a committee of community-based stakeholders to collaborate and streamline existing and new efforts about SGBV.
    * Mobilization: Mobilize women's groups to foster community participation and dialogue of and support for SGBV prevention efforts.
    * Reporting: Write and submit monthly and quarterly reports.
    * Program/Project Evaluation: Participate in the design and implementation of program and project evaluation.
    * Perform other duties as assigned in the implementation of program activities.

Qualifications:
    * Under Graduate degree in Public Health or Social Work with focus on reproductive health; advanced degree preferred.
    * 5 years working in gender-based violence, human rights and protection required; background working with refugees preferred.
    * 3 years working at the program management level, including leading or assisting with designing and implementing projects.
    * Working knowledge of Nairobi's refugee community, specifically Eastleigh.
    * Fluency in Swahili and English required; Knowledge of refugee language desired.
    * Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    * Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
    * Must be a Kenyan citizen and present her national identification card, KRA Pin certificate, NSSF and NHIF cards upon request.
