UNDP Kenya would like to recruit a Programme Analyst (National Professional Officer Category, Grade NOB - ICS9) for Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery (DRR&R)

Background

UNDP's support for Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery is anchored on national policies, processes, strategies and plans.

Specific areas of focus include: adequate preparedness, harmonized early warning systems, disaster prevention and mitigation strategies, mainstreaming, improved response and recovery.

The Programme Analyst is expected to strengthen the unit in its engagement with national actors and stakeholders in the development, finalization and implementation of these policies, strategies and plans.

In addition, support capacity building strategies and programmes for institutions at national and local level, plus communities as a prerequisite for future resilience. Create awareness on recent trends such as climate change, urbanization and support programmes that assist communities in strengthening their coping and climate adaptation strategies.

Position Information

The Programme Analyst will work under the direct supervision of the Team Leader, Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery Unit.

He/ she will support the unit in the formulation, implementation and management of UNDP's DRR &R programme outcomes, outputs and activities as stipulated in the United Nations Assistance Framework (UNDAF) and Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP).


The Programme Analyst will examine the impact of disasters risks on the political, social and economic situation, trends likely to alter disaster landscape and support the formulation, management and evaluation of strategies and plans to these risks. Provide policy advice services and technical support to relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications

    * Master's Degree or equivalent in Disaster Risk Reduction / Management, or in Rural Development, Agriculture or Livelihoods, Policy Formulation, Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Sciences, Social Sciences or related field.
    * At least 2 years of relevant experience in Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery issues and Livelihoods, at the national or international level in providing management advisory services, hands-on experience in formulation, design, monitoring and evaluation of development projects.
    * Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, experience in handling of web based management systems.

Language Requirements


    * Fluency in English and Swahili is a requirement.
