TITLE: CHILD PROTECTION (CP) INTERN
TEAM/PROGRAMME: EASTERN AND CENTRAL AFRICA REGIONAL OFFICE LOCATION: NAIROBI, KENYA
ASSINGMENT PERIOD: 17th January – 15th April 2011 POST TYPE: INTERNSHIP


Child Safeguarding Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people

ROLE PURPOSE:
To provide administrative, follow-up, monitoring support on CP activities that are related to the following overall annual goals:

National Child Protection Systems (NCPS): Civil Society organizations, communities and children in ECAF advocate and influence relevant government bodies for the establishment and strengthening of national child protection structures and mechanisms.

Child Protection in Emergencies (CPIE): In 2011 competencies that have been built will be utilized to improve and advocate for interventions that prevent and respond to child protection issues, with a particular emphasis on the four key areas of child recruitment, sexual violence, separation and disaster risk reduction.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Regional Child Protection Manager, with regular contact with the Regional CPiE Officer

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Activities:
Prepare a monthly work plan highlighting key activities.

Follow-up of all partnership agreements, financial, narrative and audit reports between SCS and the respective partners/grantees for both NCPS and CPiE.

Follow- up of report submission (financial, narrative and audit reports) from NCPS and CPiE partners as per the agreements.

Undertake an administrative check (identify issues/gaps etc for follow up) of all reports submitted by partners and ensure they are complete before submission to RCP Manager and CPiE Officer.

Consolidate and update the quarterly and annual planner/work plan regularly for both the RCP Manager and CPiE Officer

Provide day to day administrative support to both RCP Manager and CPiE Officer (photocopying, filing, make appointments, etc).

In consultation with a both the RCP Manager and CPiE Officer, review the monthly budget follow up reports for both NCPS and CPiE projects to ensure that expenses are posted correctly, and identify errors/gaps for follow up with the accounts team.

Provide administrative and logistical support in organising regional NCPS and CPiE programme meetings/ workshops/events.

Contribute relevant information for updating ECAF Regional Office’s programme database

Continuously review logistical requirements both RCP Manager and CPiE Officer and make necessary arrangements for replenishment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

* Good understanding of programme, financial and operational support and management processes
* Good understanding of key trends in Child Rights in general, and Child Protection in different contexts in particular.
