JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT
REPORTS TO: CHIEF ACCOUNTANT
JOB LOCATION: NAIROBI KENYA


JOB SUMMARY

Functions include providing financial data to be used for and participation in budgeting, forecasting and accounting for program and operating expenses, and expenditure analysis
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Verify the group Bank Accounts reconciliation to the Bank Statements on a monthly basis.
Verify the group Suppliers balances per the General Ledger to respective suppliers’ statements
Ensure that Petty cash book is reconciled to the General Ledger on a monthly basis.
Accrue expenses in the areas of responsibility.
Assist in tax compliance by preparing VAT and Withholding Tax returns on a monthly basis.
Reconcile inter-company accounts
Facilitate the reporting (book closing) process by ensuring that deadlines are met.working closely with the Accounts Assistants to produce the monthly accounts;
Assisting with financial planning and management reporting;
Assisting with budget production and general forecasting.
Responsible for GL maintenance,
Reconciliations and month end closing
Verify Journal entries and special projects as needed.
Analyzing financial information and prepare financial reports
Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts
Analyzes financial information and prepares reports to summarize current and projected company financial position.
Audits contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.
Establishing, modify, document, and coordinate implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.
Direct and coordinate activities of other accountants and clerical workers performing accounting and bookkeeping tasks.
Reconcile more complex accounts and check the accuracy of journal entries to ensure that the general ledger is accurate and complete.
Check and analyze financial information and prepare more complex financial reports and accounting statement, so that senior management has accurate and timely information for making financial decisions.
Provide technical accounting advise within areas of expertise to functional or operational area managers to help them develop revenue and expense budgets, understand financial reports and their financial responsibilities.
Coach less experienced accounting staff and help them resolve problems.

Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
Formal training in accounting such as CPA Level II

Experience

2 – 3 years experience as an Accounts Assistant or 1 year as an Accountant.
Experience in FMCG environment will be an added advantage
